Not all vegan collagen is the same

Collagen itself only comes from animals, so every vegan collagen is really a way of giving your body what it needs to make its own. The difference is in how.

Most vegan collagens

Are "collagen boosters": a mix of vitamin C, a few amino acids and botanicals, with no collagen-matched building blocks at all.

VeCollal

Is a biomimetic. It is built to match the amino acid profile of human collagen, and it has been studied in people at 5g a day. We use the full 5g of each type, Type I and Type II, where most brands that use VeCollal choose Type I alone.

Why Type II matters

Type I is the collagen of your skin: it gives skin its structure and firmness. Type II is the collagen of your cartilage, the smooth cushion in your joints.

Nearly every collagen supplement, animal or vegan, gives you Type I only. The Dual Collagen Complex is the only vegan collagen that gives you both, so one sachet looks after your skin and your joints.

Vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of cartilage, and copper contributes to the maintenance of normal connective tissues.

Every cofactor earns its place

A cofactor is a helper. Your body cannot build collagen from building blocks alone: it needs certain vitamins and minerals to switch on the process, link the collagen strands together and protect them once they are made. Without the right cofactors, collagen building blocks have nowhere to go.

That is why the Dual Collagen Complex includes nine of them, each at a meaningful dose, supporting your skin, joints, hair, nails and bones.

Three levels of evidence

Most collagen brands rely on one study, usually about the ingredient rather than the product in the box. Ours sits on three levels.

Level one

The ingredients

Every active was chosen on published research: a credible evidence base, a form the body can absorb, and a dose that matches the one used in the studies rather than a token inclusion. Laboratory work on the VeCollal biomimetic looked at its effect on collagen production in skin cells.

Level two

Published human studies

VeCollal has been studied in people. A double-blind, placebo-controlled study of 90 participants taking 5g a day for 8 weeks (Lin et al., Journal of Functional Foods, 2024) reported improvements in skin measures including wrinkles, texture and elasticity, with results similar to a high-quality marine collagen. A separate study on the Type II biomimetic looked at joint comfort and function over 12 weeks.

Ingredient-level research on VeCollal, not results for the finished Dual Collagen Complex.

Level three

Our own trial

The Radiance System, which pairs the Dual Collagen Complex with the 20% vitamin C serum, went through an independent 12-week consumer trial with 32 participants using both together. 91% said the serum was brightening their skin at 8 weeks, and no adverse reactions were reported.

Consumer-reported results, 12 weeks, serum and sachets used together as one system.

Your collagen questions, answered

Is vegan collagen real collagen?

Not in the strict sense. Collagen itself only comes from animals. What vegan collagen does is give your body what it needs to make its own. VeCollal goes further than most because it is biomimetic: built to match the amino acid profile of human collagen, rather than being a general vitamin blend.

What makes the Dual Collagen Complex different from other vegan collagens?

Three things. It is the only vegan collagen with both Type I and Type II. It uses the full 5g of each type, 10g in total, where many vegan collagens contain 2.5g to 5g of a single type. And it includes nine named cofactors at meaningful doses, rather than a token sprinkle of vitamin C.

Why does Type II collagen matter?

Type II is the main collagen in your cartilage, the cushion in your joints. Almost every collagen supplement only contains Type I, which is the skin collagen. Having both means one daily sachet supports your skin and your joints, with vitamin C contributing to normal collagen formation for the normal function of cartilage.

What is a cofactor, and why are there so many?

A cofactor is a vitamin or mineral your body needs to actually build and protect collagen. Think of collagen building blocks as bricks: the cofactors are the builders and the mortar. We include nine, including high-strength vitamin C, zinc, copper and biotin, so nothing holds your body back.

Vegan or marine collagen: which is better?

A 2024 double-blind study found VeCollal performed similarly to a high-quality marine collagen on skin measures. The difference is that VeCollal is 100% vegan, and our formula adds Type II and nine cofactors, which marine collagens rarely include.

How long does it take to work?

Take it daily for 8 to 12 weeks. Collagen builds slowly, so consistency matters more than anything. Many people notice changes in their skin before their joints.

How do I take it, and what does it taste like?

One 25g liquid sachet a day, taken straight from the pack. There is no mixing, no shaker and no powder to stir. It tastes of blueberry, with no fishy aftertaste.

Is it suitable for everyone?

It is suitable for most adults, including vegans. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medication or under medical supervision, check with your doctor or pharmacist first.

Where is it made?

In the UK, and independently tested.
